The Voyager team at JPL have finally proven that Voyager 1 has reached Interstellar space. It apparently crossed the threshold of our solar system (the heliosphere) on August 25th, 2012. But it’s taken this long to check their assumptions were correct.
If you go here, you can see an image of Voyager 1 – well, to be exact, a picture of it as a miniscule shimmer of light. But it’s out there and JPL expect it to operate until 2020.
One day, perhaps, it will be mankind crossing into interstellar space . . .
