STAR TREK CONTINUES (and why you should watch it)

The first episode of STAR TREK CONTINUES is now available to watch online, and I’ve got to say, I think it’s the best fan effort at continuing the original Star Trek series I’ve ever seen.

Watch it here:

I applaud what James Cawley has done with his series, but STAR TREK CONTINUES by Vic Mignogna has to be the best fan series ever created. It takes what’s come before it and goes to a whole new level of professionalism. The sets, lighting . . . indeed, all levels of production are top notch and, more importantly, in keeping with the original series.

The cinematography does what a lot of fan series previously haven’t been able to do. It recreates the look and depth of the 60’s show. You never feel like you’re watching something shot today. Under Mignogna’s watchful eye, lens man Matt Bucy skillfully recreates the feel of the original Star Trek series without it being a pastiche.

The acting is great, and the special effects shots are in keeping with what would have been possible in the 60’s. Regarding the actors, it’s uncanny how Mignogna, especially, resembles Shatner. And of course Doohan junior is a spitting image of his Father, even down to the accent. Great work.

I’ll admit to watching STAR TREK CONTINUES, Episode 1, with some skepticism. “Another fan series?” I thought.

How wrong could I be.

This is a fine effort, and as a fan of Trek I am fully behind it. The first episode is brilliant, and sets the bar unbelievably high for ensuing installments. It takes a lot of love and commitment to even get something like this off the ground, and you get the feeling that the whole cast and crew of STAR TREK CONTINUES are aiming as high as possible in every sense.

Am I gushing over this? Maybe. I can’t help it. I can’t wait to see what Vic and co. can do.

Or, in the words of Kirk himself, “Let’s see what’s out there…”
