#FridayReads ft. tutti frutti, Shadow of a Dead Star, and Far From Home!!!

So, I finished Thinner by Stephen King (or Richard Bachman) and I would say it’s definitely up there with Blaze, my favourite Bachman book of them all. This week I’ve started to read Shadow of a Dead Star by Michael Shean.

It’s a terrific read. The world-building is first class, and very well thought out.

I highly recommend it, and in case you’re curious about it here are some links:

Once I’m done I’ll post a review simultaneously here and anywhere else I can put it. I’ve been in contact with Michael lately, albeit briefly, and he has taken part in my Writer’s Spaces interviews. Look for that soon. Probably next week. Should be interesting.

After Shadow of a Dead Star, I will be reading the Raymond Benson novelization of Metal Gear Solid. That’s right, I’m reading the novelization of a bloody video game. So what. I don’t think there’s anything wrong in letting your hair down with a bit of light reading, and there’s as much to be learned from media tie-ins as there is from the world of pulp, in my humble opinion. Is there really a lot separating the writers of both? I don’t think so.

This week I watched 16 & Pregnant, and Hell’s Kitchen USA. I’m waiting to buy Jaws on bluray next week, and I’ve been either writing, reading or playing Metal Gear Solid (PS1) on PS3, which probably doesn’t make any sense to people who don’t have a PS3.

I need to mention here that this week I changed the cover image and description of tutti frutti and I’ve seen a noticeable increase in sales because of it.

So far this week I finished up a 10k story called ABC, and have started another entitled Remnant for possibly inclusion in a time travel anthology. I think I’ve come up with a good story, and I’m hoping to have it done by Monday the latest. By the end of next week I need to crack back on with FFH#2 to get it out in time for the end of September.

Trouble was, the deadline for the second Kindle AllStars project is October, so I needed to get it done in September. Also it ended up a lot longer than I first thought it would. Also, the deadline for the time travel antho is actually September. So I knew I had to do these two stories first, and then FFH#2. As it is, I’ve written one quarter of book 2 already so I’m not worried.

Oh before I forget this week I’ve been listening to Dub Side of the Moon by the Easy Star All Stars.

Required listening for Floydians.

Until next Friday folks!
